Hela AhmadiConference ChairHela is a fifth-year Pre-Medical student pursuing a degree in Kinesiology at San Diego State University. Hela also serves as a peer mentor as a part of the Health Professions Advising Office providing guidance to other pre-health students. Outside of school, Hela works as a medical scribe in the Emergency Department at Palomar Hospital gaining exposure and a first-hand look into her local community and the disparities they face. One of Hela's biggest passions involves creating equal opportunities for all students and promoting the success of minorities. She knows that she would not be where she is today without the help and support of her family, friends, peers and mentors. Being involved with the Council of Pre-Health Organizations allows Hela to provide such opportunities and resources to her fellow pre-health students. Her goal is to help each student find/build their own support community. Outside of school, Hela enjoys to be outdoors, play soccer, explore and spend quality time with friends and family.

Maria RyzhovaTreasurerMaria is a third-year pre-Physician Assistant student pursuing her degree in Biology at San Diego State University. She helps her community by volunteering at Alvarado Medical Center and working as a vitals technician at the UCSD Student-Run Free Clinic. She is also a Medical Assistant at SHARP Sherev Heart and Vascular Clinic. This is Maria’s second year being a part of the Aztec Pre-Health Conference, and she is looking forward to helping provide new opportunities for pre-health students to connect with health professionals, gain guidance in pursuing their education and career, and be surrounded by students who have a similar goal! In her free time, Maria loves to play tennis with her friends and family.

Genovese LeSecretaryGenovese is a fourth-year Microbiology major on the Pre-Medicine track at San Diego State University. She has been involved in an array of activities on- and off-campus, such as being as the Treasurer for the Women in Science Society, volunteering at the UCSD Hillcrest Medical Center, serving as a Peer Mentor for the SDSU Health Professions Advising Office, conducting undergraduate research on waterborne infectious diseases, and mentoring the San Diego Asian Youth Organization. Her biggest passion lies in working with underserved communities by mentoring the youth. As the conference secretary, Genovese strives to facilitate a cohesive network of SDSU pre-health students by providing opportunities to network, build professional portfolios, and connect with other pre-health students through APHC. In her free time, Genovese enjoys spending time with family and friends, eating out at new ramen restaurants, and doing 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzles.

Nate LucasDirector of Public RelationsNate is a fourth-year student who will obtain a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies of 3 departments: Gerontology, Nutrition, and Public Health. From a young age, Nate’s parents instilled a strong foundation for serving others. Nate is currently looking to pursue a career in Naturopathic Medicine and would love to participate in Doctors without borders to integrate serving others while incorporating his passion for health and wellness alongside his love for traveling. On-campus, Nate has served as a resident advisor and now works as a peer mentor for students with cognitive and noncognitive disabilities. He also serves on the executive board member for our Help the Homeless organization here at SDSU and is looking to start a Holistic Health and Wellness club in the spring.

Sharon SengphanithProgram DirectorSharon is a fifth-year Pre-Medical student majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies with departments in Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology. She is currently studying Glioblastoma multiforme as an intern for the California Institute Regenerative Medicine intern at the Sanford Consortium. During her five years at San Diego State, she has participated in many activities both on and off campus, including being President of the Aztec Professional Pre-Health Organization, a Peer Mentor in the Health Professions Advising Office, a volunteer for ElderHelp of San Diego, and a Pathmaker Intern. In her free time, Sharon loves to travel, hike, and do anything outdoors!

Alan PatrusGraduate School Fair DirectorAlan is a fourth-year Biology student who is pursuing a career in medicine. He joined the pre-health conference committee in order to instill confidence in pre-health students’ goals of becoming health professionals. Alan’s other activities include volunteering in a medical center emergency room, conducting health psychological research among the fibromyalgia population, and coaching youth basketball. His favorite pastimes include gardening and playing pickup basketball.

Sarah SalcedoGraduate School Fair DirectorSarah is a fifth-year Pre-Dental student pursuing a degree in Biology at San Diego State University. Sarah works as a high school biology tutor through the Math Science Teacher Initiative Program and is currently volunteering at the Monarch School of San Diego. In addition, Sarah regularly volunteers as a dental assistant through the UCSD Free Student-Run Dental Clinics and is currently serving as a Dental Coordinator with the UCSD Flying Samaritans. She likes being apart of the APHC because it gives her the opportunity to present other pre-health students with all the opportunities available and encourage them to continue following their dreams on their own paths.

Daniela FarrowProject ManagerDaniela is a second-year Pre-Medical student pursuing a Biology degree at San Diego State University. She volunteers at UC San Diego Medical Center and is a certified Medical Assistant. She is involved in other pre-health organizations on campus like AMSA. As this is her first time being part of the Aztec Pre-Health Conference, Daniela looks forward to providing resources and guidelines for pre-health students. In her free time, she likes to play tennis and listen to podcasts about medical school.
